ABOUT US
Illumina's Music Director, Rosemary Nairn OAM, has been involved with community choirs and school music programs in South Australia for over 40 years, and in 2003 she received the award of OAM for her lifetime work in choral and music education.
For some time Rosemary had thought about forming a women’s choir of experienced singers who shared a love of singing and performing a wide range of music. Early in 2008 her idea became a reality, and Illumina SA Inc was established with twenty members rehearsing at Brougham Place Uniting Church under the music direction of Rosemary, and accompanied by Betty Tothill OAM, with assistant accompanist Helen Angove.
Since then, membership has grown to forty, and Illumina has developed a reputation as a dynamic choir with a unique presentation style combining three or four-part harmonies (some with simple choreography), a cappella pieces, soloists and small ensembles.
After three years of accompanying Illumina and providing valuable support to Rosemary and all members of the choir, Betty Tothill stepped down as accompanist in order to focus on her other commitments. We are delighted that Helen Angove has accepted the role as accompanist.
Illumina continues to grow in strength, drawing on ideas from all members, improving choral skills, enjoying fellowship together and supporting charities and community projects as outlined in the vision statement.
